The Soft Sweet Hour

The last minute orders are all done and out of here- the truck picked up at 11 am. I’ve sent out our company Christmas gifts to our beta testers and VIPs. Emails are answered. Kiln is cold. Reset button. We close for the holidays in 2 hours, so the shop is getting cleaned, trash emptied, workbenches organized. Then I will write paychecks and everyone will go home until after the New Year.

This is a soft, sweet hour for me every year. The hard push is over, the deadline made in a mad rush, congratulatory high-fives done, Christmas cookies from the office platter finally get tasted. Shut down the Keurig. Leave the radio on for a while, the music is nice. Someone clean out the refrigerator, who’s yoghurt is this, getting puffy? When we open again after the holidays it will be a new year, new challenges, and the (groan) burden of inventory, then (bigger groan) taxes. But for now, the light outside is low, and we take a deep breath.

Enjoy this time. May you have a great Holiday season, with safe travels and great times with friends and loved ones. And we’ll see you on Jan 2.
